“CREATIVITY”

My learning experience with Ottodot has been fun-filled and exciting. Based in a home working environment and having meetings conducted through Zoom, it was a relatively new experience for me.

Joining Ottodot has constantly pushed me to improve my creativity and technical skills. From the weekly team meetings conducted for updates and sharing, I have learnt that we should always seek to improve and encourage creativity to bring in new ideas.

As a teaching platform for primary school students, creativity is an important element for new ideas and attract the students’ attention. Through this, I came to understand the concept that whatever things we do is the same. There is always a need for improvements and creativity is part of it.

“PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT”

I have always wanted to improve my analytical and visualization skills. The open feedback and constant encouragement and support provided by the team allowed me to take up the challenge and create better visualised charts.

As I set higher requirements for the dashboard visualisation, the challenge is also set higher for querying my MySQL statements. While I have gotten better at querying MySQL statements, and the practice from creating weekly reports has shown results as there is a significant improvement when comparing between the first report and the latest created, there definitely are still rooms for improvement. Practising while interning is the best way to hone one’s skill.

Additionally, Ottodot has provided me the learning opportunity to understand and explore how analytics can be conducted through the various online tools (MySQL to Google Data Studio and Google Sheets). While I have known or used these tools (or similar ones) it was piecing them together that made me learnt of their capability for data analysis.

Aside from all these, the internship experience has allowed me to rediscover the fun for data analytics. For the past two years, I have been trying to find out the specialization track that I want to focus on. As I am entering the third year of studies in university, I became even more anxious because I was struggling to choose between front-end development or analytics.

Having a change of pace during this summer holiday by joining Ottodot not only allowed me to rethink the road that I want to go down to in the future, it also allowed me to get hands-on and ponder if this is the kind of job that I want to do in the near future.

While I am unable to have an exact answer for my choice right now, this internship experience has certainly given me a tiny bit of hunch.
