Shen Ru (User expert intern)
Working at Ottodot was more than just an internship, it was a journey of learning and experimenting. I applied for the internship with no prior experience to UX & UI and I was lucky to be granted an opportunity to be a user expert intern. Entering an unfamiliar environment, I was nervous but excited about the opportunity the internship could offer.
Now, I would certainly say that it was an amazing experience.
Being able to work with a motivated and supportive bunch of individuals has been inspiring and I have gained many valuable soft and hard skills from them.
Upon joining, I experimented and researched useful tools for me to tackle my first task — to improve on the landing page design of our website. These include data analysis tools such as HotJar, Hubspot, Google Analytics, to gather data and analyse patterns from our consumers as well as design tools such as Figma and Canva to help me with designing and prototyping. The process was tough but fruitful.
As a user expert, I was also granted an opportunity to join live classes conducted by our learning designer, work with growth marketing, and being involved in coming up with creative ideas to build an engaging and interactive platform. As we worked together as a team, each of our individual strengths was incorporated and utilised to help us achieve our goal.
However, the internship was not all smooth sailing. Interning during circuit breaker and thus having to work from home proved to be a barrier to effective communication. As compared to physically approaching someone for help or clarification, it was a lot harder trying to communicate effectively online. Nevertheless, Wong Lei and Le Yi were able to provide timely support and provide me with sufficient guidance along the way.
As a team that is varied in background and interest, we have one thing in common and that is passion. Sharing sessions were organized for us to share what we have learned over the past few weeks and our interest in various areas. Wong Lei and Le Yi took the time to ensure that our well-being was taken care of during this internship and provided us with resources to explore our interests.
Being a part of a team with enthusiastic and vivid learners, I gained a lot of knowledge and skills from everyone.
Ottodot has also allowed me to grow my interest in UX & UI and I am thankful for this team.
