We’ve successfully launched our game, Parkour Rangers, in Alpha in just a short amount of time (6 weeks precisely!)
Parkour Rangers is an educational game designed for children 7 to 12 years old.
We still have a lot to improve but we’re excited to move forward with it. Looking for feedback from the Medium community because we want to see this games full potential! Please tell us what you think in the comments below :)
ABOUT THE GAME
Parkour Rangers is a educational competitive platforming game where players have to travel around an open map, save animals, and answer questions about them. Players are split into two teams and at the end of a 7-minute match, the team with the most animals wins!
OUR GOAL
Our goal with the game is to make learning about the animals featured more fun. We’re trying to make the learning seamless when playing. Please do give us feedback on the game with our goal in mind. Open to all kinds of feedback and suggestions regarding gameplay and polish.
MATCHES
Core gameplay loop:
- Players start at their base
- Explore open obby map
- Go to an animal
- Answer a simple true or false question
- If they get to correct the grab that animal
- Then they go back to the base to save that animal and get a point
OPEN OBBY MAP
Players can explore the Obby map. Checkpoints and shops are around for player’s convenience.
LEARN ABOUT ANIMALS
Each animal encounter players need to answer a question about that specific animal. In order to grab an animal you must answer those questions correctly. After grabbing the animal they must go back to base to save it and get a point.
EQUIP ITEMS
Items you can buy in the shop, you can equip and use against other players. Items have limited uses. To refill, players have to buy with Ottobux (in-game currency) in shops scattered around the map.
Friendly fire is possible so be careful or troll all you want!
Anyone who steps on this gooey trap will slow down for 5 seconds. Place it strategically where the opponent can’t get to their animal.
Glider takes the player farther into the maps. Gliding from up above will let you see the map around you and spot all the animals still available to grab.
CONCLUSION
This game has a long way to go but we’re determined to make it even better in our future updates. We’d like to expand this and our learning games to bigger lengths. Our goal is to create a metaverse of games where children can learn anything and everything. Why? We want to make learning fun!
Please do give us some feedback about the gameplay elements and about the learning aspect. Any suggestions or advice you can give us to improve is greatly appreciated! Thank you so much!
